Go from design to delivery with an end-to-end manufacturer
Rotomolding is one aspect of advanced manufacturing you can leverage when you work with Genimex as your manufacturing partner. Integrate seamless, hollow plastic components into appliances, containers, beauty devices, kitchen goods, and more. Our Design for Manufacturing (DFM) approach involves a design review, suggestions of appropriate materials, prototype assembly and testing, and optimization to support production at scale.
What is rotomolding?
Rotomolding, or rotational molding, involves loading plastics into custom-made molds and spinning them fast. The rotomolding process spreads the plastic evenly around the mold's inner surface to produce seamless, hollow parts and components. Plastic rotational molding is ideal when high-quality, consistently uniform parts are essential.
Rotomolding capabilities and processes
Design consultation and mold fabrication
Custom rotomolding begins with a DFM review of your design. From here, tooling involves fabricating molds that exactly match the requirements of your product’s components. We’ll also suggest plastics that will work best for your use case.
Heating and bi-axial rotation
Plastics are heated and loaded into molds that are spun on two axes simultaneously, a process known as bi-axial rotation. Different methods for this include:
- Clamshell machine rotational molding for small batch production or prototyping
- Shuttle rotomolding machines for high-volume production
- Multi-arm carousel or turret rotomolding machines for precise temperature management
Controlled cooling and solidification
Rotomolding involves controlled cooling to ensure plastics solidify with the right toughness and durability. Carousel machines allow one set of molds to cool while another spins, improving production efficiency.
Demolding and finishing
Careful removal of parts is essential to prevent deformation or damage. Facilities often use a mix of manual and mechanical demolding to suit components of different complexities. Post-mold operations include trimming, finishing, and decorating parts as required.
Ensuring quality throughout rotomolding services and processes
Quality control is integrated into every level of our plastic rotational molding processes. From design amendments to material substitution to prototype testing, we ensure every aspect of engineering is right before scaling production. On-site teams conduct spot checks and quality audits to ensure continuous quality assurance. Explore Genimex's additional comprehensive capabilities for your next product launch.
