The Year of the Pig symbolizes wealth and prosperity; and, to make sure you’re entering the first quarter of the New Year in position to “reap the benefits”—several preparations should be in play. First, know that the Chinese New Year begins on February 4th, 2019 and officially ends on February 10th. In reality, many Chinese manufacturing facilities and shipping ports shut down for as long as 3 to 4 weeks, in order to give their employees enough time to travel to their hometowns for the celebration.
You may already be aware that the Chinese New Year festivities extend beyond China’s borders. Southeast Asian countries with significant Chinese populations (such as Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines) will also experience significant manufacturing plant and port slowdowns, as well delays in engineering and design services.
